Carry is where when your ball hits the pocket, or 1-3 or 1-2 depending on what hand you use, and getting a strike. So carry is the % of strikes you get when you hit the pocket.
How can you tell when you have bad carry?
When your bowling and you hit the pocket you leave a weak 10 pin, 7 pin, 5 pin, 4pin, or the 8-10 split. Another thing is when you keep leaving solid or stone pins. What a stone or solid pin is when your ball hits the pocket hard and you leave a pin standing that hasn’t been touched.
How can you get better carry?
There are a few ways to help you carry strikes better. When you start leaving weak pins, slow your ball speed down, rev your ball up, change rotations, change weights or change balls. When you change rotations you should know what release works better. If your release is 11-5 o-clock change it to 10-4 or 9-3 o-clock, this way your ball will drive harder.

How to hook the ball, its not easy and it will take time to master. The first thing you should do in hooking you ball is to make sure that you have a mid-high performance ball, by having a ball like that it should make hooking the ball easier.
The first step in hooking the ball is the start with a lighter ball so you don’t hurt your arm, wrist, and elbow. Another thing to remember is that a finger tip ball helps out a lot, a finger tip ball is where you have the ball drilled so your thumb goes all the way in the ball and your fingers go in to the first knuckle. Now when your ready to bowl you should always put you fingers in first to provide a perfect fit. It doesn’t matter if you have a high or low back swing its all in the wrist and elbow. I’ll tell you about how max your hooking potential later.
When you get into you backswing and when your come down you should cup your wrist ( get under the ball) and when you get to the bottom of your swing you should release the ball on the upward part of your swing, but that’s not the only thing, also when your about the release the ball let it roll of your hand and lift up with your fingers. Now after you get that down you should see your ball hook more and more.
Step 2
After you been hooking the ball for a few week your should start to feel stronger, and when you feel that your ready to change to a heaver ball, increase your weight by 2-3 pounds. If you feel that your ball still isn’t hooking enough you should use your elbow to provide more spin. when you come into the top of your back swing start to bend your elbow. About half way through your back swing push the ball off with your elbow and lift with your fingers. ANOTHER INPORTANT THING IS when you release the ball that you have rotation that is going for the head pin.
THING TO WATCH FOR
If your ball was drilled and has too long of a span on one of your fingers YOU SHOULD NOT USE IT. This is very dangerous because you can pull tendons and even break one of your fingers. When one of your fingers has to long of a span it puts all the pressure on that one finger.
